Senator DiLoreto devoted himself to public service. During his two terms as a state senator he distinguished himself as an able legislator and showed particular leadership in the field of education. He was Chairperson of the State Legislature's Education Committee

He was a former chairman of the New Britain Board of Education and a former member of the local Recreation Commission, and held other municipal posts. He was a judge of the Police Court and, at his death, was counsel to the Mattabassett Sewer District.

He was a long-time friend of Central Connecticut State University in his native city and much of the college's progress was due to his support.
